In 1798, Father Tisserant became the first Catholic Priest to serve in Wethersfield. He was a refugee from the French Revolution who lived with the Bellasis family in Wethersfield serving as a tutor ..... The first active parish in Wethersfield came in 1877 when the Sacred Heart of Jesus was established as a mission church of St. Mary's in East Hartford.
